TITLE: Research Associate (Postdoctoral). A full time, fixed-term appointment subject to annual renewal at the discretion of the principal investigator.
SALARY: $ 42,000

The successful applicant will work with satellite ocean color and physical data to determine environmental conditions conducive to the development and persistence of harmful algal blooms
(HABs, specifically Pseudonitzschia spp) off the coast of Oregon . The project will also involve participation in short (max 14 day, but mostly single day) cruises and subsequent processing of in situ data describing toxin concentrations and environmental conditions. The postdoc will disseminate the project results via departmental seminars, national meetings and peer-reviewed publications.
Applicants should hold a PhD in biological oceanography or a related discipline, preferably with a background in satellite data processing. Experience with Matlab or similar programming languages is highly desirable. Good organizational skills and a proven ability to manage large and diverse data sets are essential. Candidates should ideally also have sea-going experience and a basic knowledge of oceanographic field techniques. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity is preferred.
