BOEM convention used for the sale of drilling rights in the GoM; used in this dataset as a site name. Briefly, the letters represent the name of the planning area, followed by the lease block number within the planning area. For example, GB480 is read, Garden Banks (planning area), lease block 480. Additional acronyms: GC = Green Canyon, AC = Alaminos Canyon, and MC = Mississippi Canyon. The only site that breaks this convention is Orca basin.
